Mango trees are now grown in almost all tropical and subtropical regions. The mango season varies depending on the country of origin. Depending on the variety, the fruits are oval or kidney-shaped and have a yellow, green to red and firm skin. In some wild varieties, the skin is even edible. The flesh itself is yellow to orange. There are now over 250 varieties of mango worldwide, although only a handful are suitable for drying. Around 13-14 kg of fresh mangoes are needed for 1 kg of dried mangoes.
The fruit for our mango strips comes from Ghana, where the tropical climate - with alternating rain and drought and days and nights of almost equal length due to the proximity to the equator - is ideal for their cultivation and growth.
From the tree into the bag and straight to you
In Ghana, there are two periods in which mangoes can be grown. The Kent and Keitt varieties are particularly widespread here. In the main season, from May to July, more than double the amount is produced compared to the second season, from January to February. The freshly harvested fruit is delivered to our supplier throughout the day during the harvest season.
We have developed a sophisticated process to produce our sweet, dried mangoes: If the mangoes have not yet reached full ripeness, they are stored in a ripening chamber until the ripening process is complete. This is followed by extensive quality control and cleaning of all the fruit. The high-quality mangoes are then cut into mango strips by hand, dried for around 15 hours and then quickly made their way to us in Ulm.
Delicious and nutritious. What more could you want?
Dried mangoes have a high content of beta-carotene and vitamin C, which are known to be real immune boosters. Minerals such as potassium, magnesium, copper and iron are also found in this aromatic power fruit. They also contain valuable fiber, proteins, bitter substances and fruit acids. In other words, our mango strips contain a real power mix of nutrients.
