To this day, they are grown on large plantations in Argentina, Brazil, but also in the USA or Africa, to enable the purchase of peanuts worldwide. In cultivation, they literally like to bury their heads in the sand. As their name suggests, they thrive in the soil – but not from the beginning. Initially, the bushy peanut plant grows "normally" and reaches a height of 60 cm. It also produces yellow flowers. Once these flowers wilt, something wonderful happens: the flower stem grows downwards into the soil, and the peanut kernels form from the seeds, protected by a shell.

Buying peanuts: from harvest to your party bowl

At a temperature of 25 to 30 degrees Celsius, peanuts need just four to six months to ripen. This can be identified when the leaves above the ground turn slightly yellowish. In addition, the shell should crack noisily and easily. A field of peanuts is harvested with mechanical support. After pulling them out, the legumes are allowed to dry in the sun for several days and are then collected along with the shell. This is followed by another drying phase before moving on to further processing. At the end of the production process, you can buy and enjoy them directly.

They are rich in plant protein, healthy fats, and a variety of vitamins and minerals, including vitamin E, magnesium, potassium, calcium, biotin, copper, and folic acid.
